MAC Nail Trend Fall 2010 by Jin Soon Choi

Did you buy from last year’s MAC Nail Trend?  If you could recall, MAC gave us a full collection of nail lacquers designed by the talented Jin Soon Choi.  If you don’t know who she is, learn more about the girl who used to be known as  “Bicycle Jin” here.  Her story is very moving and inspiring!

Back to the collection – although MAC nail polishes are hit or miss for me, Nail Trend was  total hit!  I bought 5 out of the 6 colors from the collection.  When I first heard that there’s going to be a sequel to this collection for 2010, I was super excited!

The initial bottle photos look uber interesting and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they are as fabulous as they look in the initial stock photos!

To kick things off, here are the color descriptions:

  • Concubine- Blackened red with red shimmer
  • Earthly Harmony- Muted Taupe with copper shimmer
  • Ming Blue- Cobalt blue with teal and red shimmer
  • Rain of Flowers- Blackened violet with violet shimmer
  • Imperial Flower- Bright reddish orange with gold and red shimmer
  • Jade Dragon- Emerald green with teal shimmer

Is your heart beating a little bit faster already?  Wait ’till you scroll further down.  You’ve been warned!

MAC Imperial Flower

MAC Earthly Harmony

MAC Concubine

MAC Rain of Flowers

MAC Jade Dragon

Aren’t these so lust worthy??!?!??!

There are many things I’m actually digging about this collection:

  1. I’m a sucker for cosmetic collaborations.  I am such a marketing victim.  Name it – Barbie Loves Stila, MAC Venomous Villains, MAC Hello Kitty, OPI Shrek…even in my taste in fashion…Thakoon for Target, Liberty of London for Target, etc etc.  I love all of them!
  2. The oriental-inspired names and color palette.  Take that, OPI Hongkong!  MAC and Jin Soon are proving that you don’t need to come up with silly and corny polish names to sell polish.  :P   Jade Dragon, Ming Blue…these are pretty cool and straightforward names and not any less creative in my own humble opinion.
  3. This collection is design by a nail artist and not some marketing guy who doesn’t know what he/she is talking about.  Obviously, I’m a fan of Jin Soon based on what I have researched about her.  Her story inspires me so much.

What I’m not looking forward to:

  1. Ebay scalpers who will hoard all MAC stock and sell for $$$ on Ebay.  Ugh, I hate you all!
  2. The price tag.  $12 for 10ml isn’t easy on the pocket especially since salon brands are selling for around $8 for 15ml of quality polish.  $12 x 6 polishes for me makes things worse.

But overall, I’m a happy nail polish lover to see this collection coming soon.  Can’t wait to get my hands on all of these. :)

These are due out in the US August and everywhere else September.

MAC Venomous Villains Collection

MAC does the best collaborations in the whole wide world.  Some of my fave collaborations of years past are Barbie, Liberty of London, and Alexander McQueen.

MAC seems set on outdoing themselves again with a new collaboration….

… with the largest entertainment company on earth – Walt Disney.  When I first heard of it, I immediately thought that they were going to do something with the Disney Princesses like Ariel, Belle (my favorite, of course!), and Cinderella.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that MAC has taken the offbeat path by featuring not the usual heroine but the villains!  Awesome.  Here’s some pictures with the “sub collections”.

MAC really got me curious with this collection.  Though the first pictures leaked didn’t really excite me, to be honest.  Here, take a look yourself:

I am hoping that the rest of the packaging doesn’t look like they are for some pre-teen cosmetics line.  MAC, you could do better in this!  I believe in you!  Just look at what you did for Back to the Beach, which was a smash hit!

Of course, I am definitely looking forward to those nail lacquers.  Very curious with those descriptions!

This collection comes out September 2010.

MAC Alice + Olivia Collection

I’m back!  Well, sort of.  I just actually settled down in one place and still trying to get back in the groove of things.  Hopefully I’ll be able to pick up on posting soon since I also bought a new camera!  Yay!  I finally got tired of looking for my old one.  Sigh.

Anyway, I just had to share news about this latest MAC collaboration.  As with a lot of team ups they have done in the past, MAC excites us with a whole collection of vivid and fun colors when they partnered with the relatively-young women’s clothing brand, Alice + Olivia.

Dazzleglass Creme

  • Sparklicious Creamy pale pinky white with soft multi-dimensional pearlized pigments (Limited Edition)
  • If it’s Pink… Hot pink with soft multi-dimensional pearlized pigments (Limited Edition)
  • I.Want.Candy. Hot yellow with soft multi-dimensional pearlized pigments (Limited Edition)

Pigment

  • Later. Black with transforming purple pearlized pigments
  • If It Sparkles… White with transforming pink pearlized pigments
  • Partylicious Turquoise with silver pearlized pigments

Nail Lacquer

  • Morning.After. Creamy turquoise (Cream)
  • So Rich So Pretty Bright purple with pearlized pigments (Frost)
  • Military Black matte with silver suede pearl (Matte with Pearl)

If you’ve been reading this blog for quite a while, you would know that all I care about any new MAC collection are the nail polishes.  I was gaga over MAC a while back but thankfully (for my wallet) got “rehabilitated”.

Back to the polishes – well, Morning. After since likes a shoo-in for “must buy” for me.  I have to see swatches of So Rich So Pretty before passing judgment, as typically frost finishes spell disaster.  Military is yet another black matte (ho-hum), and yet I am intrigued with the so-called ‘pearl’ finish described here – hope it’s unique enough out of all the matte incarnations out there.

Oh, unfortunately for Manila-based gals, this seems to be a limited release.  In Asia, only Japan and Korea are going to get it.  So it would be best to just get them in etailers that ship internationally or have some of your friends get them for you.  This collection will be out July 8.
