Models Own Nail Polish Swatches + Shopping Tips

If you have been living under a huge nail polish bottle and haven’t heard about the 50% off Models Own sale, hurry over to Facebook and be a fan of Models Own here.  You only have a few days left to avail of the 50% off discount.  I have about 20 polishes from them and I honestly like what I have so far. I bought 20 more over the weekend.

Some tips in shopping:

  • Use this direct link.
  • Have a list of what you want beforehand.  The site takes a LONG time to add colors to your cart, so knowing what you want and clicking through your selections helps.  Imagine 10,000+ people trying to place an order all at the same time (ok, that’s clearly an exaggeration but you get the idea).
  • Be patient.  Make sure that you are ready to spend a good hour in placing an order.  I have been quite busy these weeks but still managed to place an order late night Friday.  And get this – I fell asleep in front of my laptop in the middle of placing an order!  That’s how slow the site loads. :D
  • For those using credit card to place the order, make sure to add the issue date of your card and the additional info they ask for (some code that I don’t have on mine) on the payment info, only IF your card has it.  That will authorize your purchase.
  • Wait for the site to finish loading before doing anything else, like checking out again.  You might place in an order twice!  If you aren’t sure if your order went through, check your email and see if you got an order confirmation.
  • If the site won’t load, try clearing your browser’s cache and reload the page.  Or try using a different browser!
  • If you are still having problems, go and post a message on Models Own’s Facebook page.  They respond pretty quickly!  I think their customer service makes the effort worthwhile. :)
  • Make sure you make this a huge order to make the effort worthwhile and the shipping cost (10 GBP for international) worth it.  For UK-based folks, shipping is free for purchases of at least 20 GBP.

I have already posted individual reviews for about half of the Models Own polishes I own here but let me put in all the photos here in this post, along with some other swatches I haven’t posted before, to help you guys.  I actually swatched a few more, but can’t find the photos. :(   If you have time to read through thorough reviews, go ahead and check out the Models Own category on the drop down list to the right of the page.

Enough chitchat, here are the polishes!

Final thoughts: I think Models Own makes great polish.  They have some unique and pretty colors that are worth the trouble.  I highly recommend the cremes – the formula is fantastic;  a little on the thick side but IMO this makes it easier to apply on the nail.  Take note though that of all the polishes I swatched above, Green Tea actually dried matte (maybe a neon pigment), so you may need to apply top coat to get the effect you want.

So sorry couldn’t find my swatches of Purple Grey and some of the glitters.  By the time I finish re-doing my swatches, the sale might be already over. :(   Oh well!

Hope this helps you decide!

Goal: Models Own 50% Off Sale!!!

For those plotting Models Own orders, hold your horses.  I suggest that we all wait a few days to see if we can get a good deal soon! Models Own is going to offer a 50% off sale if they hit 10,000 fans on Facebook by the end of August.

Come on polish addicts, we can do this!  Go tell all your friends to “Like” Models Own on Facebook here.

Need some convincing?  Check out my Models Own swatches here (or look at the drop down category on the right to see my swatches so far organized by brand).  I should be posting the rest of my swatches to get you guys on my side and help Models Own reach 10,000 fans!  Argh!  I want that sale sooo bad!  I have a loooonnnggg list of polishes to buy right now!

UK gals can take the most advantage of the sale since they offer free shipping in the UK, but international girls, don’t fret as they ship to all over the world for roughly US $15!!!!  They accept Paypal too so no worries about getting your credit card number stolen by some cyber psycho.  I’ve ordered from them before and will not hesitate to order again.

Btw, if anyone is having problems ordering from them, feel free to drop me a line.  I’ve heard of some gals having difficulty so I think I could help. :)

Models Own Pastel Pink

After exploring the gloomy side of Models Own with their grey cremes, and then looking at some of their more outrageous shades a few days back, let me go into “safe polish” territory now with a pretty basic mani color that you could probably find in almost all polish brands: THE basic pink.  Here is Models Own’s version:

Models Own Pastel Pink

See how incredibly girly this shade is?  I was doubtful that I would like this but wanted to try Models Own’s pastel polishes.  As some of you may already know, pastel nail colors are notorious for being incredibly streaky and difficult to work with.  I personally reserve wearing most of my pastel polishes when I have my nails done in a salon.  Does this polish live up to expectations?  Here are my thoughts:

Formula: First coat was streaky and I wasn’t surprised since pastel polishes are notoriously difficult to work with.   I was NOT looking forward to the succeeding coats at this point.

However Pastel Pink pulled off quite a surprise for me – at 3 coats, it evened itself out pretty well.  Very smooth application on the third coat and I couldn’t see traces of my struggle with streaky application upon seeing the final product.  Good work, Models Own!  I’m definitely off to try more of their pastel colors now that this has passed my is-this-polish-too-much-of-a-pain-in-the-ass-to-apply-that-I-wouldn’t-even-bother-using-it test.

Rating:

Opacity: Two coats was pretty opaque but because it was still a bit streaky, needed a third coat.  After that, all was well.

Rating:

Removal: No problems here.

Rating:

Color: The name of this polish pretty much gives you what to expect – it IS what you would expect a pastel pink to be.

Extra! Extra!: I know that there must be hundreds of light pink polishes out there from different brands.  However it’s rare to find a light pink CREME polish that works on me.  This is thankfully one of them.  I’m not a big fan of light pinks since I prefer statement-making nail colors most of the time, but when I want to feel like Barbie, I will definitely keep this polish in mind.  It’s not as pasty looking as the other light pinks we’ve seen from mainstream brands like OPI and China Glaze in recent months.  It reminds me of candy! Would definitely try this on my toes soon.

Rating:

P.S. Be prepared to have an instant tan when you wear this, though.  Look what happened to my hands.  I went about 2-3 foundation shades darker. :P   No biggie for me, honestly.

Can’t wait to show you the rest…we’re halfway through all of the Models own stuff I have!  I hope you have enjoyed this as much as I have. :)
